I
begin every restoration project with a pre-work assessment
and cost estimate. The accompanying photos and information
primarily deal with a Dentzel
stander.
There are a number of obvious necessary repairs, such
as two loose legs that have splits and missing wood,
the back cantle on the romance side is missing and there
are a series of large splits on the top plate running
nearly the entire length of the body. On the head, most
of the ears and part of the forelock are missing, as
well as a portion of an eye. Fortunately, everything
appears to be original to the horse with no evidence
of major wood rot. With this stage completed, the stripping
phase follows. <
